In recent years the importance of information security has become clearer, as the volume of sensitive information stored and transmitted online keeps growing. Yet many people still fail to take adequate measures to protect what they have.
In the past, protecting yourself required specialist knowledge and expensive tools: for small organisations and individuals it was effectively out of reach. But technology moves on, and simple, affordable, effective solutions are emerging. That means even a start-up with limited resources will be able to secure its systems from day one, without waiting until it has grown large.
There is a second field where this will matter a great deal: the creation of content. With the arrival of conversational systems, artificial intelligence has entered creative work. And from this comes a question that still has no answer: how do you certify whether a work was made by a person or by a machine?
The answer lies in making information security accessible. Creators will need to be able to protect their work in a way that can be verified, and that calls for simple tools designed for people who are not technical.
The future of information security will be democratic or it will not happen at all. That is particularly true in content, where the line between the human and the machine-generated thins every day.
